NSF REU/IGERT Cellular Engineering Program - 2008/2007/2006

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded funding to support IBB's Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU). IBB's NSF REU Program will continue the initiatives set forth by IBB's previous NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training Program (IGERT) in Cellular Engineering.

The highly successful NSF IGERT summer undergraduate research program augurs well for IBB's newly-funded NSF REU program. Ms. Maude Rowland, a former IGERT summer intern, is now a first-year graduate student at Rice studying in the bioengineering department. Maude is the recipient of an NSF graduate fellowship as well.  In addition, another former IGERT summer intern, Ms. Sherket Peterson, has been awarded a graduate fellowship from the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science. These success stories are a testament to the pedigree and benefit that IBB's undergraduate programs can entail for students interested in future graduate studies.
