Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 5-7p.m. (Kyle Morrow Room, Fondren Library). Representatives from the Higashi Aberyu, a Sencha school, will be providing a tea demonstration. Sencha (green tea) was introduced to Japan by a Zen Monk. Ingen-Zenshi from China in the early Edo period of the 17th century. These Zen teachings were refined into "the way of tea drinking" or Sencha-do. This event is sponsored by the Consulate-General of Japan at Houston.
Brown-Bags

The Chao Center for Asian Studies will be hosting a brown-bag lunch on Thursday, to provide a forum for graduate students to introduce themselves and their research. Thursday November 5, 2009 from 12-1 pm( Humanities Bldg, Room 118). Our speaker is Yasufumi Nakamori, Assistant Curator of Photography, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He will deliver a paper titled, "The Reinvention of Tradition in Architecture in Postwar Japan: Katsura (1960), a Photographic Collaboration by Tange Kenzo- and Ishimoto Yasuhiro."
