Transportation

Rice University offers a number of mobility options for its community:

Zipcar Service

The Rice Transportation Department now offers on-demand vehicle rentals through Zipcar.  Stay tuned for details.

Campus Shuttle System

The campus is served by four shuttle bus routes, including one with stops in the Texas Medical Center.  Special weekend shuttle routes connect students to the Rice Village as well as to local shopping destinations.

Carpool Service

The Rice Transportation Department maintains a carpool list to enable employees to identify potential carpoolers.   Rice also participates in the NuRide online ride-sharing community. 

Free Transit for Students

Rice's Passport to Houston program enables students to ride Metro buses and light rail for free.

Public Transportation Access

Rice is located adjacent to Metro Red Line light rail corridor, and is served by the following stations: Hermann Park/Rice U, Memotial Hermann Hospital/Houston Zoo, and Dryden/TMC.  This system connects Rice with downtown Houston, midtown, the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center (the world's largest), and the Reliant Park complex.  Numerous Metro bus lines stop within walking distance of the Rice campus, including the 26/27, 73, 8, and 34 amongst others.

Bicycle Accommodations

The Rice campus bike racks have a combined capacity of over 1,600 bicycle spaces.  Over a dozen campus academic buildings are equipped with shower rooms for cyclists, with additional shower facilities available in the Recreation Center.
