Recent news and events:

  • RecycleMania Results!  For the second straight year, Rice made a strong showing in RecycleMania, the nationwide intercollegiate recycling competition.  This year's competition featured over 200 participating schools.  For more information, click here.
  • Check out our recycling results for Q1-Q3 2006.  For the third quarter of 2006, we achieved a diversion rate of 27.40%. 
  • Join the Student Recycling Council Listserv!  Keep up-to-date about recycling issues at Rice by joining the listserv of the Student Recycling Council.
  • Electronics Recycling!  Rice Recycles accepts your e-waste - just contact the Facilities Service Center at x 2485 to arrange a Special Work Request.  Note that all Rice-owned property must be listed in the Rice Classifieds first.  Please do not bring equipment from home.
  • Recycle your old cell phones!  Rice Recycles and the Student Recycling Council recently completed a cell phone recycling campaign, and due to popular demand we will continue to collect cell phones for recycling.  If you have a cell phone that you would like to recycle, please email Richard Johnson for details.
  • Recycle your old shoes!  The Student Recycling Council will provide shoe recycling for the Rice campus during the 05-06 academic year.  Shoe recycling bins are located in the laundry rooms of each residential college, as well as the locker rooms at Autry Gym.  For more information, please email Dayna Fondell.
  • Rice Recognized by the EPA!  Rice was recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise Program for participation in the RecycleMania 2006 intercollegiate recycling competition.  Click here to view our certificate of recognition. 
  • Rice Makes Strong Showing in Nationwide Recycling Competition!  During a 10-week period from January to April, Rice participated in RecycleMania, a nationwide college and university recycling competition that included 93 schools in 33 states.  Rice contended in the “Per Capita Classic” category to see which school could collect the largest amount of recyclables per person.  Out of a total of 87 participants in that category, Rice placed in the upper half of the field at number 43.  Rice was able to claim the title of state and Conference USA champs for RecycleMania 2006.  To learn more, click here.
  • Check out the new bins!  Glass, plastic, aluminum, and paper recycling bins have been added to the first floor of the Rice Memorial Center, thanks to the efforts of students from ENST 302 working in partnership with Facilities, Engineering and Planning.
