Summer Interns 2006

Ms. Amaris Fuentes, Rice University

Mr. Mel Hainey, Rice University

Ms. Veronica Segovia, Rice University

This is the first year for the NSF IGERT Research Experience for Undergraduates in Nanophotonics Program. All three of the selected candidates are rising sophomores at Rice University who have declared a major or expressed interest in science and or engineering.    Their training includes conducting research in a nanophotonics related laboratory under the mentorship of an IGERT Trainee or graduate student.  The interns attend weekly lunch meetings in which they listen to presentations given by both IGERT Faculty and Trainees.  They participate in special seminars and a site visit to NASA with interns from the Rice Quantum Institute.   The interns are also taking a class in either Physics or Math to support and enhance their training this summer.
