Facilities

Anne and Charles Duncan Hall is home to several departments and institutes, including the departments of computer science, computational and applied mathematics, statistics, and part of electrical and computer engineering, as well as the Center for High Performance Software Research (HiPerSoft), the Center for Multimedia Communication, the Computer and Information Technology Institute (CITI), the Center for Excellence and Equity in Education (CEEE), and the Center for Technology in Teaching and Learning (CTTL). The building, designed to foster multidisciplinary research, contains faculty and graduate student offices, computer laboratories, conference rooms, a large auditorium, an atrium for social gathering, and state-of-the-art classrooms. These spaces are ideal for communication, education, and collaboration. Graduate students have access to excellent tools, such as the Rice Terascale Cluster, consisting of at least 70 interconnected servers containing the powerful Intel “Itanium” 2 processor, and the new Cray XD1 Research Cluster, one of the largest XD1 systems in the world.
