Wrap Up Panel Discussion
How can we collectively move the OER field forward to transform teaching and learning?

Anne Margulies, MIT OCW, Executive Director, Moderator
Hal Abelson, Professor, MIT, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Kim Tucker, Meraka Institute
Joel Smith, Carnegie Mellon University

Through the course of the meeting we will hear a lot about futures in technology, pedagogy, and IP.  All of these have important implications for the OER movement.  But will all this—indeed, will the OER movement itself—transform education?

We all share a common passion for open education resources.  But we are each focused on different components and think about it from many different perspectives.  Some of our initiatives are in K-12, others in higher education; some focus on content, others on tools and standards; some are specific to developing countries while others are aimed at the developed world.

With this diversity, can we collectively move OER forward to transform teaching and learning?  What does this even mean?  Will it be revolutionary or evolutionary?

The panelists will answer the following and draw on examples from our discussions during this conference:

o        What does transformed teaching and learning look like?

o        What are the key components needed to effect this transformation?

o        How do we build these key components and connect them?
