Guatemala has a population of nearly 13 million, 60% of whom live in rural areas topographically isolated by mountains and dense forests.  As a result, these communities commonly lack access to public programs such as medical care.  To address this need, Faith in Practice (FIP), an organization based in Houston, Texas, coordinates medical teams to travel to these remote communities and provide medical and dental care.

In July 2008, BTB interns Tiffany Yeh and Meagan Barry worked in Guatemala with FIP to create dental hygiene education materials that would be used in conjuction with FIP's dental outreach trips.  In addition, Meagan and Tiffany worked on organizing the equipment needed for medical mission teams to perform VIA and cryotherapy, a method of detection and treatment of precancerous lesions in the cervix.
