Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, has the hemisphere's highest rates or maternal, under-five, and infant mortality.  Preventable diseases, such as TB, water-borne illnesses, and HIV have a high prevalence due to a lack of health care and general health knowledge.

In June of 2008, two BTB interns spent four weeks in Terrier Rouge, Haiti teaching a health and science course to 450 students at St. Barthelemy Primary School.  The curriculum focused on using hands-on activities to teach relevant lessons in health, hygiene, and clean water.  The lessons were designed to be easily understood and memorable.
