The Beyond Traditional Borders (BTB) Initiative seeks to address pressing global health challenges by encouraging the development of technologies designed with a multi-faceted awareness of the true needs and difficulties encountered in providing healthcare services around the world. In collaboration with local and global partners, we work to identify the limitations to be overcome by those seeking to provide quality medical care in the resource-constrained healthcare systems of the developing world.
 BTB presents these needs in the form of Global Health Technology Design Challenge projects, which serve to truly inspire and motivate innovation in the multi-disciplinary student teams tasked with finding an answer. Furthermore, summer internship and site visit opportunities are granted to the teams which develop the most promising solutions. Through these efforts, the Global Health Technology Design Challenges are more than a curriculum requirement but rather are an opportunity to implement meaningful change with significance the world over.
