PATENTS AND COMPANIES OF IBB FACULTY
Many of IBB’s faculty are involved in transferring their technologies as patents or as start-up companies, for instance. More information about this technology transfer can be found at the Rice Office of Technology Transfer.
IBB AND BIOHOUSTON
IBB and BioHouston work together to help convene people and organizations in the life science industry, communicate information and explore opportunities, and catalyze discoveries and commercial developments. As a result IBB members promote and attend many of BioHoustons’ events. BioHouston is a non-profit organization founded by Houston-region academic/research institutions to establish the Houston region as a vigorous global competitor in life science and biotechnology commercialization. BioHouston's mission is to create an environment that will stimulate technology transfer and research commercialization, generating economic wealth for the Houston region and making it a global competitor in life science commercialization. IBB STUDENTS INTERFACE WITH INDUSTRY
Finally, graduate students participating in IBB’s NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training [IGERT]Program in Cellular Engineering and NIH Biotechnology Research Training Program are required to complete an internship with a company as part of their training.
