Research Interests:
Drug and Gene Delivery Systems: The development of polymeric prodrugs, biomimetic drug and gene delivery systems, and genetically engineered plasmids for the treatment and understanding of breast and ovarian cancer. Our focus is to understand the pathophysiology of a tumor environment with the goal of designing polymeric drug carriers that can be used to optimize the delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs and gene delivery systems. Additionally, combination therapies involving both chemotherapeutic drugs as well as gene delivery systems are promising treatments in the fight against cancer. Therefore, another area of our research will involve the development of therapeutic plasmids for the delivery of specific cytokine genes that are effective in eliciting strong immune responses against cancer cells in tandem with the administration of standard chemotherapeutic drugs.
