Keynote Speakers
Karan Watson photo
Karan Watson, PhD, PE, was appointed interim provost and executive vice president for academics on July 28, 2009. She has served as vice provost at Texas A&M University since December 2008. Prior to serving as vice provost, she had been dean of faculties and associate provost since February 2002. She joined the faculty of Texas A&M University in 1983 and is currently a Regents Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Dr. Watson is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society for Engineering Education. Her awards and recognitions include the U.S. President's Award for Mentoring Minorities and Women in Science and Technology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science mentoring award, the IEEE International Undergraduate Teaching Award, The Texas A&M University Association of Former Students—University Award for Student Relations and the College of Engineering Crawford Teaching Award.

Barbara Butterfield photo
Barbara Butterfield, PhD has more than 35 years of service in higher education. She is executive consultant to the University of Michigan and senior consultant to the Segal/Sibson Company. Dr. Butterfield is a consultant educator in the area of faculty development for both COACh and Advance Programs, supported by grants from the National Science Foundation. Her experience has been in higher education in public, land grant, private, and research Universities and in corporate education both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Butterfield holds a PhD in education administration and is an alumna of The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business Advanced Management Program. She is the author of three books and is a past president of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.
