Greetings!

On behalf of the ADVANCE Team, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Rice University NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation for Faculty Diversity website. As our abstract and proposal indicate, our project is focused on the Schools of Science and Engineering. Consistent with the broader goals of this NSF program, we are committed to increasing the number of women in science and engineering at Rice University, to creating a positive and welcoming work environment, to a deep and thoughtful assessment of our activities, and to sharing what we learn in this exciting endeavor.

Our team has worked arduously to produce a virtual space where our activities can be identified and thereby to make it easy for others to share this journey. This program is designed to capitalize on the strong commitment to gender equity at Rice University and to create new insights into the features of the academy that impede the inclusion and progress of women and minorities more generally in the professoriate.

We invite you to come along on this journey, to take full advantage of our workshops, databases of potential faculty candidates, and on-line forums as they emerge. Our hope is that more women and underrepresented minorities will be inspired to join the ranks of academe and to use their own skills to advance into important leadership roles based on the activities of the ADVANCE program at Rice University.
