Where Faculty and Staff Spouses/Partners Park Special parking arrangements have been made for faculty and staff spouses and partners who visit the Rice University campus regularly. The faculty or staff member may purchase- at a special, reduced cost- a second proximity card for use by his or her spouse/partner when visiting the campus to attend Rice functions or events, to use Rice facilities, to visit or enjoy the campus, to do volunteer work for the university, or to accomplish other forms of Rice business. These arrangements will proceed on an experimental basis, but will be continued unless or until congestion in parking spaces becomes a significant problem. The faculty or staff member may purchase parking for a spouse/partner in one of several lots, listed below, or the garage. The spouse/partner fee will be 40% of the annual parking fee for the lot/garage. This offer is extended on the condition that there is space available in the specific parking facility. The faculty or staff member will be personally responsible for registering for the spouse/partner prox-card, paying all fees and citations, and ensuring that Rice parking and traffic regulations are observed. The faculty and staff member may use pre-tax payroll deductions to pay his/her personal and spouse/partner parking fees. This special arrangement is not extended to a spouse/partner who also works for Rice or for parking on campus while working elsewhere or leaving campus for non-Rice activities.  As with all contract parking, there may be times that the assigned lot or garage is filled to capacity or restricted for special use; during these rare occurrences, the spouse/partner will need to park elsewhere (such as in the free visitor parking in the Greenbriar Lot). The spouse/partner proximity card will be programmed to open the assigned lot and Lovett, Abercrombie and North Lot after hours and on weekends and holidays. It shall be viewed a misuse of this card if the sponsoring employee uses it for cheaper, closer parking. Misuse will warrant a $100 fine. Three violations shall result in loss of parking privileges. The following are priorities for contract parking in faculty/staff facilities: 1st faculty and staff paying full price on a first-come, first-served or waiting list basis; 2nd is space is available, degree program students paying full price for North Lot and up to a contract capacity of 260 in the Central Campus Garage (on B2, lower level); and 3rd if space available, contract spouse/partner parking in North Lot to capacity and in the garage on B2 level with a total of contract parkers not exceed 260.
