Dear 2011 Matriculants,

First off, a hearty congratulations on your acceptance to Rice University! I’m sure you’ve heard all about the community atmosphere here on campus - one which will certainly be extended to your Orientation Week 2011. Rice has a unique week-long orientation that will prepare you socially, academically, and emotionally for your transition into life here at Rice University. It be may exciting, nerve wracking, unfamiliar, and confusing at times, but by the end of O-Week, not only will you have a thought-out class schedule in hand, but you will have created bonds with classmates and upperclassmen that will aid you on your collegiate journey.

Since December of last year, faculty, students, and staff alike have been preparing for your arrival here on campus. More than 300 advisors will voluntarily come back early this summer to welcome you with open arms. More than 30 coordinators have spent their spring and summer planning, creating, and implementing events that will help you become a member of this wonderful university. Before you even step on campus, hours of time and energy will have been invested into making your transition as seamless as possible. If you come with an open mind, O-Week can be an experience like no other, and many students look back on O-Week as one of the most formative experiences at Rice.

This website is a helpful resource that provides information about O-Week itself and serves as a resource for information on campus services, resources, and the residential college system. In early July, you will be assigned to one of the residential colleges at Rice. Soon after that, you will receive information about your roommate and your college’s O-Week handbook that will be able to answer many of your questions about life at Rice, academics, specifics of the college, and much more.

If you have any questions over the summer, I’ll be available with regular office hours to provide all the information and help that I can. I’m super excited for your arrival and absolutely cannot wait for you to arrive here at Rice!

Sincerely,

Jenny Sun
