Global Digital Opportunity Initiative: Announced in February of 2002, this initiative sponsored by the Markle Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is composed of an International Partners Group including Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems, AOL-Time Warner, the Harvard Center for International Development, Grameen Bank and other business, non-profit and international entities. The initiative and its partners "will work in approximately twelve developing nations over the next two years to assist them in harnessing digital technology's power to improve healthcare and education, address social equity issues, reduce poverty and create enhanced economic opportunity."
Egyptian Healthnet: A special focus of this group is on "supporting telemedicine and using video-conferencing tools to facilitate remote collaboration among physicians and increase access to specialized medical facilities."
Telemedicine Technologies Center: This commercial firm in India offers these telemedicine services: Videoconferencing (Video+Audio), Teleradiology, Telepathology, Electronic Patient Records, Distance Educational Programs and Overseas Consultation.
