The name 'Gamefish Technologies' was inspired by a work of craft art in the Smithsonian's Renwick Galley in Washington, D.C.. Entitled 'Game Fish,' by Larry Fuentes, the piece is a colorful and playfully reconstituted sailfish trophy. The original fish has been covered completely in found objects, such as dice, yo-yos, poker chips, coins, Ping-Pong balls, and other inexpensive found objects. The work thus encourages the viewer to rethink the original sail fish in new and provocative ways, using available objects easily gotten and creatively deployed. The Gamefish Technology research group similarly is dedicated to using existing, cost effective technologies to solve complex challenges here and abroad, with the hope of improving our understanding of the people and issues affected by this technical deployment.
